Random Light II: Mesmerisingly Beautiful
Celebrating 20 years of Random Light with an aesthetically perfected and user-friendly design.
The story of a Moooi Original
They’re never completely round, and always beautifully transparent and delicate. Bertjan Pot, the designer of the Random Light, is more a contemporary inventor than a designer. The Random light was his first design for Moooi, and like all his other designs, started out as an experiment for an interior object.
After graduating from the renowned Design Academy in Eindhoven (NL), Bertjan started experimenting with the remains of his graduation project. This experimenting resulted in what would eventually become the first Random Light. In 2001 Founder and Art Director for Moooi, Marcel Wanders, was impressed with Bertjan’s clever experiment, thinking it would be a perfect fit for a brand like Moooi. After three years of perfecting the production process, The Random Light was added to the Moooi collection and became an instant icon!
Modernised and better than ever
Almost twenty years later, the Random Light is as relevant and eye-catching as ever. A Moooi original loved by many all over the world. To honour the beautiful designs in our collection, we are committed to further improve our Moooi Originals. Together with designer Bertjan Pot, we’ve updated the Random Light with enhanced user-experience and Bertjan Pot’s original idea as key focus. The end result is an aesthetically perfected and user-friendly design, with an enlarged lifecycle: the Random Light II. The Random Light II transmits a feeling of simplicity, softness, lightness and a touch of magic in contemporary style. The production process is a special story by itself: a resin drained yarn is randomly coiled around an inflatable beach ball creating a translucent 3D fabric. The beach ball is then deflated and extracted from a round opening in the lamp. At the end the skin becomes the product. Soft and magic.
No other suspension is incredibly random and mesmerisingly beautiful as The Random Light II.
